Hands-On Assignment

Perform the following on-vehicle tests. The required results are marked in red text.

  • Digital Multi-Meter Voltage Reading

    • Obtain a DMM.

    • Obtain an automobile or truck with access to the battery.

    • Place your meter on DC volts.

    • 1. Measure the battery voltage.

    • 2. Convert the meter's measurement into kilo-volts.

  • Digital Multi-Meter Voltage Reading

    • Obtain a DMM.

    • Obtain an automobile or truck with access to the battery.

    • Place your meter on DC volts

    • 3. Measure the voltage from the battery negative post to a brake pipe connected to the master cylinder.

    • 4. Convert the meter's measurement into base units.

  • Digital Multi-Meter Voltage Reading

    • Obtain a DMM.

    • Obtain an automobile or truck with access to the battery and an under hood fuse block.

    • Place your meter on DC volts

    • 5. Measure the voltage from the battery positive post to the top of a fuse (if accessible).

    • 6. Convert the meter's measurement intobase units.

  • Digital Multi-Meter Resistance Reading

    • Obtain a DMM.

    • Place the DMM on Ohms and touch the meter leads with a finger on each hand.

    • 7. Measure and record your body's resistance displayed on the meter.

    • 8. Convert the meter's measurement into base units.

  • Digital Multi-Meter Current Reading

    • Obtain a test light and a DMM.

    • Obtain an automobile or truck with access to the battery.

    • Connect your test light to a battery to cause the bulb to illuminate.

    • 9. Install an ammeter in series with the test light to measure and record the current displayed on the meter in the test light circuit.

    • 10. Convert the meter's measurement into base units.
