Soldering
SolderingSoldering insures a good electrical connection has taken place between a wire and a terminal. To solder a wire to a terminal:
- Make sure the wire and terminal are clean and free of corrosion, grease, etc.
- Heat-up the soldering iron.
- Clean the soldering iron tip by wiping it with a wet sponge or rag.
- Hang the roll of solder over the edge of a table.
- Melt a small dab of solder onto the soldering iron tip.
- Hold the tip of the soldering iron with the small dab of melted wire underneath the terminal housing where the wire is crimped in place.
- Wait a few seconds and then hold the wire and soldering iron combination up to the solder hanging from the table and let a small amount of wire melt on and into the wire strands. The solder should soak into the wire strands. You should still be able to see the wire strands, but they will be solder colored now.
- Remove the soldering iron tip from the terminal and set it down in a safe place to cool down.
- Inspect the solder connection. Make sure that no solder ran into the terminal lock tang or any other part of the terminal.
